Pacific BMW is at a high profile location along Glendale Boulevard in Glendale. Consisting of a jewel box style show room and a rooftop lot, the intent was to draw attention to cars from the road without being the kind of source of glare that car dealerships typically are. For this reason shielded light sources such as downlights, in-grade wall wash fixtures, and 8’-0” tall cut-off post tops with house side shields were used.
To create the jewel box effect through the large storefront windows we illuminated most surfaces with wall washers and uplights. This function was secondary, though, to the affect created by having all of these illuminated surfaces reflect in the finishes of the cars on display. The cars were also spot lighted using downlights, which highlighted them in the obvious manner, but also provided some sparkle due to reflections in the cars’ glossy finishes. Warm, high color rendering, long life sources were used rather than the standard cool white lamping found at most dealerships.
