Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart honored by Special Citation for 2009 IES Illumination Awards Edwin F. Guth Memorial Award for Interior Lighting Design.
The Lighting Design Alliance design team of Andy Powell, Hanna Son, and Chip Israel were recognized for their particularly creative use of layered light in niches. However, the project was broadly judged based on recognition of professionalism, ingenuity, and originality in lighting design based upon the individual merit of each entry judged against specific criteria. Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart scored amongst the best considering judging criteria which included complexity of problem, concept, integration, performance, visual comfort, environmental considerations, budget restrictions, and ease of maintenance.

Seminar Objectives: Discuss LEED lighting case studies including schools, libraries, theaters, retail spaces, hospitality projects and tenant build-outs. Cover the basics of LEED and overcome trepidations about applying its practices and concepts.
LDA designs honored at 2008 AIA/LA Restaurant Design Awards
Katsuya Glendale by Starck wins Jury Award in the Restaurant Category and oneworld Lounge at LAX wins People's Choice Award in the Lounge/Nightclub Category.
This marks the fourth year of the AIA/LA's much-anticipated awards program that recoginzes the very best in restaurant, cafe, and lounge design. The competition is open to all individuals and practices (both restaurant owners and architects/designers) for projects located in the greater Los Angeles area or projects outside of LA done by LA-based archtiects/designers. Submissions are accepted in three main categories: restauratns, cafe/bar and lounge/nightclub. Projects were evaluated in detail by an esteemed jury for the project's design concept, operational layout and overall packaging. "We evaluated projects for their excellence both from an asthetic perspective but also from an operational standpoint," explained Joachim Splichal. "A good restaurant, cafe, or lounge must be supremely functional behind the curtain of design."

CRLL 24 City Featured in World Architecture News
World Architecture News has featured the 2.4 million square feet 24 City Development that Lighting Design Alliance is collaborating on with Callison. With a large retail mall, outdoor park-like landscape and commercial tower, the complex is one of the new developments in progress in Chengdu, which was hit hard by last year's earthquake.

Harvey Nichols Jakarta Opens
Harvey Nichols, the upscale retail department store opened in Jakarta. Lighting Design Alliance collaborated with Callison in Seattle to create innovative lighting solutions that are unique to this store. This was the second Harvey Nichols that LDA designed with Callison, the first being the flagship store in Dubai.

Lighting Design Alliance has designed a number of international department stores with Callison, including Harvey Nichols in Dubai and Jakarta, Seibu in Jakarta, Aekyung in Korea and Liverpool in Mexico City.
We Moved to our New Sustainable Office!
We have moved to our new custom built low carbon footprint office in Long Beach! It took over 2 years, but the 100% daylit space, with state of the art lighting technologies, on-site energy generation and environmentally friendly materials serves us as a daily reminder in our design process.
Christopher Slaughter joins LDA

Trump International Hotel & Tower opens in Las Vegas, NV
The Trump International Hotel & Tower is a 64-story high-rise with more than 1,200 luxury suites available as hotel guestrooms or condominiums. For those who want the lights of The Strip without the noise and bustle of on-site gaming, amenities include a spa, salon, health club, pool, meeting room facilities, and dining. With prominence given to decorative fixtures and featured architectural elements, the lighting design reinforces the traditional style one would expect of a Trump Property.
Lighting Design Alliance worked closely with architect Bergman, Walls & Associates and interior designer Design360 Unlimited to create interiors as glamorous as the gold-clad exterior tower.
