Kelly Presents Aulani
Aulani
A Disney Resort & Spa
Kyllene (Kelly) A. Jones, LEED AP | Lighting Design Alliance

Designing a destination resort that lives up to the Disney name certainly has its challenges. Starting with extensive research into Hawaiian history in order to develop a distinctly Hawaiian experience, the design evolved to include the design of custom lighting fixtures to enhance the theming of the property. Lighting Design Alliance's Kelly Jones presents the design evolution of this project, and the difficulty of balancing the expectations of today's resort guests with strict safety standards.
19th annual Thea Awards
LDA is proud to announce 2 Awards for Outstanding Achievement
Carthay Circle Restaurant and Lounge, Disney California Adventure Park – Anaheim, USA
Lighting Design Alliance worked closely with interior lighting designers at ABA Design Studio and SMS Architects to ensure that all decorative and general lighting were coordinated, helping to guarantee the success of this highly themed restaurant. The Carthay Circle Restaurant and Lounge is part of Disney’s $1 billion improvements to Disney’s California Adventure theme park.

Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa - Ko Olina, Oahu, Hawaii USA
Extensive research into Hawaiian culture was imperative to the execution of the concepts and appearance of decorative fixtures, with careful color selection of ambers and blues inspired by the surrounding landscape. Multiple layers from points of light and intentional contrast, a common theme, met strict illumination guidelines, while creating the dramatic 'aloha' feel that can only be experienced in Hawaii.
